FEATURED PRODUCER – TANDOORI NAAN
This year has been a whirlwind of emotions! We started 8 years ago in Newcastle serving Indian Street Food to the North East. We then started going further afield with our local produce to events and festivals. This year we had a full calendar of events and then due to Covid, every single event was cancelled. I went from a full time festival trader to a full time Mummy due to nurseries being closed. I spent a lot of time researching what I could do to keep the company afloat and to bring street food to the customers in a Covid safe manner.
We reopened back up in August and decided to start working alongside breweries, pubs and social venues who were also impacted within the hospitality industry. We have been working with Anarchy Brewing Co. Brewis Brewery, Tynedale Cricket Club, Stocksfield Cricket Club, Peddler Market as well with a number of other local venues. By conducting small pop ups, we hope that this has increased trade for the venues, given customers a safe way to access our Indian Street Food and helped us to pay our bills. We hope that we have helped local businesses get more recognition and customers. In turn it has also assisted us to have a base to trade from.
It’s been hard work, with the changing government rules and regulations however we are all trying to serve our customers in the safest Covid responsible environment whilst trying to keep our companies afloat.
We are missing the festival scene however we are building great relationships with local businesses and I am honestly grateful to the customers for the support they have shown us. So many people have come over the last 8 years who keep returning and we have established a wonderful new customer base. The Loaded Tandoori Naans & Loaded Masala Fries with Punjabi dishes has had some fabulous reviews.
Although sales are up and down, working in our local and surrounding areas has given me time to vary our menu to a smaller crowd. In some ways it has inspired me to be more creative and be able to offer customers more variety as we have time. It has really solidified that I really do want to have bricks and mortar next year to provide a funky Indian street food venue and continue to work with the local breweries. The customer feedback has been amazing and we are so grateful. Coming home to reviews after a long evening of working and then washing dish upon dish, is the most amazing feeling!
Due to having to pack up and down each night, we have had to invest in a catering van. We really hope that we and other hospitality industries can make it through to the other side. We can’t thank our customers enough for helping us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
